This sacred rock, now part of the pilgrimage route, holds immense historical and spiritual significance due to the miraculous event associated with Devasahayam Pillai’s final journey.

  • Historical Significance: The site is historically tied to the journey of St. Devasahayam Pillai, who was brought from Thiruvithancode Prison to Kattadimalai to be executed by the Travancore soldiers. According to local belief, on his way, Devasahayam Pillai was made to sit on a buffalo, enduring various tortures as he was taken to his death.

  • Miracle of Muttidichan Parai: While passing through this place, Devasahayam Pillai, suffering from immense thirst due to the tortures, asked the soldiers for water. They cruelly gave him filthy water, which he could not drink. Kneeling on this rock, he prayed to Jesus for help, striking the rock with his elbow. Miraculously, a fountain of water gushed forth from the rock, allowing him to quench his thirst. This miraculous water still flows today, and many believe in its healing powers, with pilgrims visiting to drink from the spring and receive God’s blessings.
